Job Opportunity: Policy Lead
Reports to: Co-Director
Annual Salary: Base salary ranging from $60,000 to $70,000 based on relevant education and work experience. Plus, $20,000 annual Northern top up for residing in Northern Canada.
RRSP Contributions: Annual RRSP contribution of 12% of earned salary less the total cost of employer paid benefits to a max of $9,000 (based on available project funds)

The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Policy Lead. The successful candidate will lead the development of an EntrepreNorth Policy Circle and the coordination of research, policy and advocacy work in collaboration with ecosystem partners, responsible governments, and community stakeholders. Their work will play a crucial role in shaping and advocating for policies that support Indigenous entrepreneurship, economic development, and community well-being across the North. They will also develop strategic partnerships in support of the work and secure funding for policy research. This position requires a strong background in policy analysis, research, and a deep understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Indigenous entrepreneurs in Northern Canada.

Role and Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and coordination of a Northern Research and Policy Circle that involves EntrepreNorth’s network and other relevant ecosystem partners.
- Facilitate dialogue and input on annual research agendas and policy work that prioritizes issues identified by the Northern Research and Policy Circle.
- Coordinate the development of research and policy papers that explore the root causes and issues that have created systemic barriers for Northern Indigenous entrepreneurs and communities.
- Develop capacity-building opportunities for entrepreneurs to gain policy development and advocacy skills.
- Conduct in-depth research on economic, social, and cultural factors affecting Indigenous entrepreneurs and communities in Northern Canada.
- Coordinate the production annual research papers and key findings on policy issues prioritized by the Northern Research and Policy Circle.
- Collaborate with Indigenous communities to understand their needs and incorporate their perspectives into policy recommendations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, Indigenous organizations, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Host ecosystem convenings and roundtable discussions regarding key policy work and research related to Indigenous entrepreneurship in the North.
- Work with Co-Directors to secure funding for research development.
- Establish and implement systems to monitor the impact of policies on Indigenous entrepreneurs and make recommendations for adjustments or improvements as needed.
- Maintain CRA regulatory standards applicable to public policy dialogue and development activities.
- Work with the finance team to process applicable travel and expense claims.
- Work with the finance team to process applicable bursary and honorarium payments.
- Conduct expense reporting for credit card expenses.
- Setup vendor service contracts and monitor deliverables.
Strengths and Experience
- University degree or college diploma and a minimum of 2-4 years of work experience in policy development, research and analysis, or a related field.
- Experienced and strong understanding of working in Indigenous communities and/or culturally sensitive environments.
- Familiarity with the Northern Canada business landscape and the challenges faced by Indigenous entrepreneurs.
- An excellent communicator who works well with others and under direction.
- A highly self-motivated and adaptable individual who is able to take initiative and problem-solve to see projects through to completion.
- Very organised and able to manage competing deadlines and priorities with the support of project management software and technology.
- Able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Appreciates and is open to travel opportunities across the North.
